Record year for Nordic game sales

Digital Sales report_2014

ANGI – Association for the Nordic Game Industry has released a report showcasing an estimate of digital sales figures for the first time. The report which was compiled using data provided by American market intelligence company SuperData Research presents a record year for the Nordic games industry.

The report highlights a dip in the sale of games from brick and mortar outlets, but the inclusion of digital sales pushes up the annual regional revenue to SEK 8.7 billion or nearly one billion Euros. Nordic’s digital market share accounts for 63 percent of that figure.

It was much more than we anticipated, says Per Strömbäck spokesperson for the Swedish Games Industry. There has been a huge shift in the industry in recent years. Games on mobile, social media and online games have come in leaps and bounds. Not least because they make games accessible to new audiences.

In summary, these are exciting times for the industry with the indie movement and open publishing on the rise, expect those figures to experience an upward trajectory twelve months from now
