Members, fans and inquisitive geeks are welcome to the latest Geek Girl Meetup later this week. GGM is a non-profit organization that actively works to lift and create new female role models in engineering, IT and startups. The theme of this weeks event is geekdom and will feature talks from among others Alisa Nylund and Sara Cecilia.
Alisa and I will be talking about games: The first part of the talk is how we got into games and which games have meant a lot to us and why. The second part of the talk is about how to start creating games and takeaways for the audience to get inspired to become game developers.
The event which is aimed at over 18s and free to attend is one Sara believes has a key function within the games and start up circuit.
It’s a great forum to meet other like minded people with common interests (this case tech and games), and it’s a good initiative to make sure women are being included into this community and industry. The goal is to inspire women to enter (and stay!) in the tech & games industries, and events like GGM really lift women forward by having women speak on stage or in panels which is sadly not that common in regular events/conferences, Sara added.
The Geek Girl Meetup pop-up event and afterwork event will take place on September 26th at Elefanten Brunkebergstorg and will run from 5pm to 8pm.
